Made in Virginia: The Christmas Gift Guide

It’s the season and this year it’s more important than ever to support local businesses. To make shopping for your vacation easier, we’ve created a Made in Virginia Gift Guide with a carefully curated selection of Virginia-made goodies for everyone on your list. Put a few of these gifts under the tree to make the perfect gift for someone and at the same time to support your fellow Virgins this holiday season!

KO distillation bottled in Bond Bourbon

If you are buying someone who likes high quality liquor, consider buying a bottle from a Virginia distillery, e.g. B. at KO Distilling’s Bottled in Bond Bourbon. From grain to glass, every step of the way to make this superb bourbon is done in Virginia. Corn, wheat, and malted barley are all grown in Virginia, the bourbon is aged in charred new American oak barrels at the distillery for four years, and finally the bourbon is bottled with a label created by a Virginia company. This bourbon is about helping the local people. So if your goal is to buy Virginia made products, we can’t think of a better way to do it.

Buy other Virginia-made liquor from an ABC store or nearby distillery. Due to COVID-19 and changing liquor regulations, many distilleries have also started delivering direct to your home. So check with your favorite distilleries to see if you can order a few bottles of Virginia liquor online.

Elodie’s Naturals owner Elodie Cally is originally from France where she came up with the idea of a skin care company while pregnant and tried to find cosmetic products that would be safe for both her and her baby. She started tinkering with her own simple and safe formulas, eventually returning to school in Paris and earning a degree in cosmetic formulation.

After moving to Arlington, Virginia, Elodie decided to use her expertise to start Elodie’s Naturals, a cosmetics business that focused on healthy, easy-to-understand skin care formulas. Not only does Elodie create wonderful products like their herbal, vegan-friendly French lip balms (infused with flavors like caramel and blackberry), moisturizing serums, face lotions, and hand creams, but also teaches classes where attendees can learn how to mix their own safe and effective products. Due to COVID-19, these classes are only available outdoors. Stay tuned for more information.

Overnight in a luxury resort, hotel or guest house

Travel looks a little different this year, so planning a trip out of state may not be ideal for you and your family. Instead, plan a “stay” in Virginia and book an overnight trip to a luxury resort, hotel or inn, such as the Tides Inn on the northern neck of Virginia, the Quirk Hotel or the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, the Omni Homestead in Hot Springs, The Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, or the Jefferson in Richmond. These are just a few of the incredible luxury homes in the entire Commonwealth. Find one near you and enjoy a relaxing vacation at a neighboring upscale resort.

Twin Oaks hammocks

Those outdoors friends and family will appreciate a Twin Oaks hammock waiting under the tree this year. The Louisa-based company has been manufacturing rope hammocks, fabric hammocks and hammock chairs with reliable and durable quality products since 1967. Available in both single and family sizes, these hammocks can either be lined up permanently between two supports in your yard or taken to outdoor events such as music festivals (once they’re back on the agenda!).

If you know men who carry their cards around and cash in on a rubber band or an old rundown wallet that has seen better days, gift them a new carbon fiber wallet from Ragged Edge Gear of Meadows of Dan, Virginia. Originally developed for use in the aerospace industry, carbon fiber laminates are stronger than steel, light, water-repellent and can be easily wiped off when dirty. These wallets are known for their long-lasting durability, even if owned by the toughest types. With many different styles, you can find a color, size, and shape for just about anyone. The company also makes toiletries, gear bags, and folders made from carbon fiber material, offering strong, durable products that will last for years.

When it comes to Christmas gifts, you can’t go wrong with the gift of locally made Virginia beer or cider, or a bottle of Virginia wine from a nearby vineyard. With over 300 wineries and more than 250 breweries and cideries, there is always a vineyard, brewery or cidery just around the corner that incorporate some of Virginia’s high-quality fruits and grains into their products. Support these local businesses this holiday season and give your friends and family a refreshing taste of Virginia with a bottle of wine or a case of craft beer or cider.

Scarpworks cheese knife

The father and daughter team behind Scarpworks Wood Cheese Knives is based in Suffolk, Virginia. They came up with the idea for wooden cheese knives after seeing the damage metal knives had done to beautiful cheese boards over time, and discovered that a wooden knife retained the beauty of wooden cheese boards. Made with locally sourced wood such as maple and cherry, these slim wood knives make a great gift for the foodies on your list.

The Cavalier Hotel’s hunting room

If you can’t settle for a specific gift for someone, consider buying a gift card at one of the most popular Virginia stores or restaurants. You can choose your own perfect gift and you get all the credit! In addition to shops and restaurants, many breweries and wineries offer gift cards. Even if you can’t hang out in person, you can get the next round of drinks at your favorite spot.
