Due to COVID-19, many music festivals and live music venues have postponed their events to later dates or canceled them entirely. As the vaccinations continue, more festivals will take place as planned. Keep an eye on this page for information on if your favorite Virginia music festival is still on.
Status: Still planned for July 21-25, 2021
One of the largest and best music festivals in Virginia, FloydFest is a five day festival in the mountains of Floyd. Participants can camp in the trees of the Blue Ridge Mountains during the festival and enjoy live music with more than 100 artists on eight stages, outdoor adventures, local vendors offering everything from handmade goods, workshops, healing arts seminars and activities for children .
Red Wing Roots Music Festival
Status: Provisionally planned for July 9-11, 2021
The Red Wing Roots Music Festival takes place over three days in the scenic Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon is a family friendly event that combines bluegrass and folk music. Multiple stages allow a variety of regional and national bands to continuously play different genres during the festival, and there are tons of organized outdoor events such as bike rides, hiking, fun runs and interactive activities for children.
Status: The festival has been canceled for 2021. Rooster Walk Reunion, a three-day festival at Pop’s Farm, will take place October 8-10, 2021.
The Rooster Walk music and arts festival offers musical performances in a variety of genres including bluegrass, rock, reggae, jazz, country and americana – all in a family-friendly environment. In addition to music, you will also discover several stalls selling handicrafts.
Virginia Arts Festival
Status: Postponed for various dates in 2021.
- Virginia International TattooThe event originally planned for April 15-18, 2021 in the Norfolk Scope Arena will now take place from June 3-6, 2021 on Kornblau Field of Old Dominion University in SB Ballard Stadium.
- Williamsburg Live planned for June 19, 2021.
Every year the Virginia Arts Festival, brings the world’s best artists to venues across the Hampton Roads area. The big event is that Virginia International Tattoothat pays tribute to the US military. Presented in the great tradition of the world’s oldest tattoos, this tattoo is an all-American show of patriotism and pride – an international sensation.

This takes place in Virginia Beach on the last weekend of May Patriotic festival, an annual event honoring our armed forces personnel and their families. The Patriotic Festival is a three-day event that features concerts by country music stars, military exhibitions, and exhibitions.
Shenandoah Valley Music Festival
Status: Still planned for July-Sept. 2021
Takes place in the beautiful historic retreat and conference center of Shrine Mont on summer weekends Shenandoah Valley Music Festival has brought countless talented musicians to the area including LeAnn Rimes, Bruce Hornsby and The Temptations.
Hampton Jazz Festival
Status: 2021 festival canceled; new dates 24.-26. June 2022
The annual Hampton Jazz Festival attracts the nation’s best blues, soul, pop, and jazz performers. Tens of thousands of devoted fans from across the nation gather in Hampton each June to take part in this three-day celebration.

Annually in memory of young local musician Houston Caldwell, HoustonFest is a two-day festival in southwest Virginia featuring more than 30 bands spanning music genres from bluegrass to gospel. In addition to the music, skilled artisans and local sellers have workshops and sell homemade goods.
Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention
Status: Provisionally planned for August 9-14, 2021
The oldest and largest violinist festival in the world, the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention pays tribute to the rich culture and roots of mountain music in the region. Since 1935, this festival has brought together musicians and bluegrass fans from around the world to discover the sound that defines the Blue Ridge Mountains. After more than 80 years, the festival remains one of the most affordable and fun events on the East Coast, offering a family-friendly vacation option for those who want to learn more about the extensive musical background of Southwest Virginia.
Something in the water
Status: 2021 festival canceled
The music and culture festival of Virginia Beach-born Pharrell Williams, Something in the water, takes place on the Virginia Beach coast and features a large number of national tour artists and many native talent in a variety of genres including hip hop, R&B, rock, and many others.
Richmond Jazz and Music Festival
Status: 2021 data TBD.
Experience the world’s best jazz and R&B music against the beautiful rolling hills of Maymont’s historic grounds.
Staunton Music Festival
Status: Still planned for August 13-22, 2021
The Staunton Music Festival brings 60 of the world’s most famous musicians to more than 20 concerts in historic locations in downtown Staunton. The daily concerts range from varied chamber music with chamber music from the Middle Ages to world premieres performed by singers and instrumentalists from all over Europe and the USA. There are also free lectures before the concert and special offers with numerous restaurants and hotels in the city center.
Blue Ridge Music Center summer concert series
Status: The summer concert season 2021 is planned for Saturdays from June to September.
The Blue Ridge Music Center Galax has a state-of-the-art amphitheater on Blue Ridge Parkway and concerts are held every weekend from June to September.
Status: Still planned for October 1st to 3rd, 2021
The LOCKN ‘Festival is a four day music festival on Infinity Downs Farm with an emphasis on jam band music, camping, outdoor activities, local food, drinks and artisans. LOCKN ‘is one of the largest music festivals in Virginia. Many of the artists perform over several days and are presented in unique and exciting artist pairings.
Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion
Status: Still planned for September 10th to 12th, 2021
A three day festival along State Street in downtown Bristol. Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion celebrates Bristol’s heritage as the birthplace of country music, where some of the most notable and influential musical recordings of all time were made. Experience more than a hundred bands playing on 19 stages during the festival, filling the streets of Bristol with Americana, country, bluegrass, rock, blues and various other genres that have their roots in the Bristol Sessions.

The FESTY is a socially distant, outdoor concert series in the Chisholm Vineyards in Earlysville, less than 10 miles from downtown Charlottesville. Access to the festival series is sold in pods for 2, 4 and 6 people.
Richmond Folk Festival
Status: 2021 data TBD
We celebrate the roots, riches, and diversity of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, and food Richmond Folk Festival features more than 30 groups on seven live music stages, plus a demonstration area for Virginia folklife, children’s activities, a marketplace for folk art, local and ethnic food, and more. The free three day festival is one of the largest events in Virginia.
